When it's time to welcome home a new member of the family, most people like to have their nursery ready to go. In fact, decorating the nursery can be one of the most exciting and fun activities during pregnancy. Painting a room, putting up decorations and setting up the crib can turn that old guest room into a bonafide nursery fit for your pride and joy.
But what if you don't know the sex of your new child? You don't have to wait until the big day to get started. You can decorate with classic colors, be creative in your theme or just take care of the basics until you have more information.

Classic Looks -
Since you don't know if it's boy or a girl, you may want to stay away from baby blue or pink. But light yellows and green work great for both genders. If you have a theme in mind, farm animals (ducks, cows, cats, geese, horses, etc...) and landscapes work well. Start with a centerpiece (like a piece of furniture or bedding) and add colors and decorations that complement it.
Unique Themes -
For something a little different, try branching out from the classic looks. If you have a personal hobby, think about incorporating it into the room. Music, biking, scuba diving and writing are all gender neutral decoration ideas and will have more meaning for your family. If you get a magazine that is all about your hobby, clip pictures and ads that could be adapted into the nursery and get creative.
Just the basics.
If you're still not sure what you want to do, paint the walls a neutral color and wait until baby comes home. Chances are, he or she will be sleeping in your room for a while any way. You can make the walls, shelves and furniture neutral by using white, tan, green or yellow, then add accent colors and decorations according to your child's gender.
Have fun decorating your home for your new baby and don't forget to remember personalized Holiday decorations as well!
